Kids and Youth Jiu Jitsu in Aurora

A kids martial arts class where jiu jitsu is played, explored and figured out together, at a level that fits your child, with a place for you to watch every class.

Who This Class Is For

Our kids jiu jitsu class is for children who want to move, play and learn something new, whether or not they have tried a sport before. Right now we run one youth class. As more families join, we plan to add a class for younger kids if numbers allow.

Kids grow at different speeds. If we think your child would get more out of waiting until they are a little older, we'll tell you.

Like every class at DEN BJJ, the kids class runs on respect and a real welcome. We're in Meadowood, just west of Iliff and Buckley, and families from across Aurora are invited to come and see it.

What a Kids Class Looks Like

Games First

Much of class is games built around real jiu jitsu positions. Kids learn to hold, escape and move by playing, with techniques pitched at their level.

Pitched at Their Level

We pitch the games and techniques at the level of the kids in the room. If we add a class for younger kids, it will look different from the class for older kids.

Stripes Along the Way

Kids earn stripes between belts, so they can see their progress. Competition is there for kids who want to try it, and it is never required.

Parents and Safety

Parents can watch every class from our observation area. If you train too, we encourage you to come to kids class with your child. It is a good way to learn together.

Confidence, focus, respect and knowing how to handle bullying are not a separate lesson here. They grow with the training itself: showing up, working with a partner, and trying something hard in a room that supports you.

Security cameras cover the training area, and every instructor is SafeSport trained. No instructor teaches a minor one-on-one in an unobserved space. A second adult or a parent must be present and visible.

How Kids Earn Belts

There are no belt tests, no testing fees and no set timeline. A coach promotes a child when they are ready: when their skill, their effort and the way they treat their partners have grown. Belts in jiu jitsu come slowly, and that is the point. A belt here tells your child something true about what they can do on the mat.

Membership covers classes. Anything extra, like an optional event, is your choice, and skipping it never counts against your child.

Jiu jitsu, karate or taekwondo?

How We Train

About 70% of class is games and situational work built from anchor points. The other 30% or so is direct technique, shown and drilled so you understand why it works, not just how.

That mix works if you like a clear technique path, and it works if you learn best by playing and figuring things out. Both kinds of learner train together in the same class.

We encourage exploration and talking with your partner about what worked, what didn't and what to try next. Jiu jitsu is explored here, not prescribed, and we like to try new things.
